When you’re travelling in a boat, skimming across the water you can’t begin to imagine the worlds that are beneath you.

One of the greatest experiences in my life was when I spent three weeks in the Caribbean and snorkeled in the crystal, clear turquoise water nearly everyday.
Oil spills makes me sad…and angry.

Thousands of birds, mammals, and other wildlife will lose their homes and refuges in the Gulf after this black goo takes its toll. Oil is like death, and I wish the world wasn’t so dependent on it. When oil spills it takes forever for new life to begin again.

It makes me wonder if BP, who is directly responsible for this current crisis has a conscious – what do you think the CEO is thinking right now? Is his heart breaking for all those little fishies, baby sea otters, and turtles. Or is he thinking “damn, this is not going to look good on my resume.”

Many animals are killed directly after an oil spill. After the Exxon
Valdez spill, 300 harbor seals, 900 bald eagles, 2,800 sea otters and
250,000 sea birds were killed soon after the incident.

Oil can persist in the environment long after a spill. More than ten
years after the Exxon Valdez, enough oil remained in the environment
to continue to harm wildlife such as fish, sea otters and sea ducks.

There are thousands of antique stores in upstate NY with tons of great vintage items waiting to be discovered. I love rummaging through dusty, old things, wondering who wore this or used that. Back-in-the-day products were actually made with real, natural materials like wood, cooper, slate, stone, and metal. Ya know the saying, “they just don’t make things like they use to” – well it’s true, they don’t.

Anyway, I will find any excuse to go antique shopping. So, when my mom said she wanted to buy me an antique bedroom set I didn’t put up a fight.

After searching several weekends throughout the Capital Region, we finally found a beautiful maghony dresser in Nassau, NY, a few miles from the house I grew up in.

I spent my whole budget on this beauty, but (we offered about $350 less than what he was asking)! My gorgeous chest of drawers (as there sometimes called) is dated aroud the late 1800’s; with wooden handles that have a mother of pearl in lay; dovetail joints; and a bunch of other great features from the period that I can’t recall..

And now Jasper has somethng else to climb on…

Sam and my dad are big car guys, and they share a love of antique cars. So, Last weekend my dad, Sam, and sister’s boyfriend dragged me, my sister and mom to the Rhinebeck Antique Car Show – <del datetime="2010-05-06T22:43:09+00:00">I was ecstatic </del> I was there for the free lunch.

I mean what heel-loving; make-up wearing chick doesn’t love a good car show with grease monkeys, dirty/rusty car parts, revving engines, and smelly exhaust.

The show was hot – and I’m not referring to what was under the hood of the thousand cars that were on display. The temperature was about 90 degrees and humid; dirt was sticky to my sweaty feet; my legs were chaffing; I was getting sun burned; and there were one too many hill-billies walking around talking about their cars.

After wandering around for an hour or so, Sam rallied the group to the foreign car area (his car of choice) – and there she was: a 1974 blue Mini Cooper with white stripes. She was tiny – (my dad pointed out that the wheels were probably the same size as his lawn mower). I think the newer model Minis didn’t actually come to the USA until early 2000’s, so I was shocked when I saw one. And she was blue – my favorite color. It was a match made in heaven – I thought about hopping in and driving away.

My uneventful day was complete.
