Rent: the Broadway Tour was playing at Proctors, a local theater this week, and I recruited my besty, Liz, to accompany me to the Friday night show. Thank God for girlfriends because I don’t think I would have been able to convince my boyfriend to go [it being a musical and all].

Rent was written by Jonathan Larson, and the show played on Broadway for nearly twelve years, which would mean I was around 12 when the show debuted. So, I guess it’s safe to say that I never saw the musical on Broadway. However, I purchased the movie, which features most of the original cast members, and I’ve watched it many times over. [I have a small crush on Adam Pascal, who plays Roger.] Luckily for me the Broadway Tour, includes two of the original cast members, Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal.

I got out of work at 4 pm, and the show started at 8 pm, so what’s a girl to do four hours? Liz and I made a few pit stops:

My review: I was a bit disappointed with the choreography because a few times the scenes were difficult to interpret, [and I have seen the musical many times]. The vocal performances were pretty amazing, and the young stars sounded just like the original cast members. Overall, the show was fun and exciting, and both Liz and I enjoyed our girl’s night out.

After the performance, there was a long line of Rent groupies waiting for autographs, so we waited for the cast members to make an appearance. Sadly, Adam snuck out the back door, but Anthony was brave enough to come out, which was still kind of cool.

P.S. I’m still humming the tunes in my head.
