No, my friend, these are not the cute country squirrels that occasional steal a sunflower seed or two from your bird feeder. These are city-slicking squirrels that eat everything in sight, including the following:

    6 inch pillar candles
    large pine cones
    lattice
    Christmas tree lights
    solid wood chairs
    rubber grill hose (twice)
    metal tea-lite holders
    flowers
    rugs

Since, I am an animal- friendly kind of gal, I opted not to harm the varmints. Last year we captured over twelve squirrels using peanut butter and released them in Washington Park, which is only a few miles away. Now I’m thinking that this may not have been far enough away.

This year Sam and I did some research and discovered CritterRidder, which is supposed to keep pesky squirrels away. Although this worked for like a week, they appeared again, as if they had never left, eating through four of the six strands of Christmas lights. I understand that they are cute furry animals trying to survive in this big city, but I’m afraid I may end up resorting to rat poison or a BB gun. Or maybe, I will use a paint ball gun and paint each of their tales a different color, so that I know which ones are returning…

Or maybe since I am still a softy, I could convince my land lord to hire a professional to remove them without harm.
