Until Tuesday June 26, 2007 I have never had any sort of metal placed in my mouth. However, my mother convinced me that having “perfect teeth” is a great thing to look forward too. This, however, has to do with my mother living vicariously through my sister and me. As an infant my mom had a major birth defect from medicine my grandmother consumed during her pregnancy with my mom, and unfortunately she was left with tainted teeth. The stain will never go away, so I guess it’s up to my Megan and me to have great teeth, but the fact that my mother is a dental assistant doesn’t help either.
Those of you who have seen my pearly whites would know that they are pretty much as “perfect” as they come without every having braces. Anyway, my mother opted to pay for it, and hey, my crooked bottom teeth are a little hard to floss between anyway, so I decided what the hell?
Although I am getting the invisaline [which was the only way I would agree], I still have one tooth that was too crooked to fix without metal, wire and pain. The process of placing the braces on my teeth wasn’t so bad, except for when the Orthodontist kept mumbling to himself, “Hmm that doesn?t seem to be working…well I have one more thing after this,” after he said on his second attempt at wrapping the wire across the 4 braces, pinching my bottom lip. Meanwhile, my cheeks are being spread apart by this crazy blue contraption, and my mouth is being jostled around. It’s like everytime someone sits in his chair they are a little experiment to see what will work.
Well, it?s been more than 48 hours and it hasn?t been so bad, but sometimes I can taste the metal, which is not that appetizing. Also, my teeth are extremely sensitive, now that there is something cemented on them, and lately, the braces have been rubbing on my gums, so it hurts!
Guess we will have and see how they turn out…supposedly the metal braces are only for 3-4 months, but we’ll see.
